9 DAY DANUBE RIVER CRUISE

on the Amedeus Elegant, new ship built in 2009;

Incl-Breakfast, lunch, dinner w/unlimited wine, daily;

Evening Entertainment, shore excursions per itinerary.

 

Day 1:  Monday, Oct 4, 2010 – Depart from JFK;

Leave NY for Germany.  Travel day only.

 

Day 2:  Arrive in Munich and transfer to Nuremberg

via bus (2 hr).  Embarkation at 4pm and sailing at 8pm.

Tonight enjoy a gala welcome dinner.

 

Day 3:  Afternoon in Regensburg;  avg temp 65-75º

Enjoy leisure time to explore Bavaria.  Built in 179BC by

the Romans, the original architecture is still visible.  See

Old Town Hall, St. Peter’s Cathedral and the old stone

bridge over the Danube.

Optional:  Weltenburg Monastery Tour (am) $44

 

 

Day 4:  This morning the ship will remain docked in Passau between 8-10:30am.  Depart for the optional tour of Salzburg or explore Passau on your own.  Most well known for St. Stephen’s Cathedral & the Old City district; which boasts fine examples of Baroque and Gothic architecture.  Continue sailing for Linz (Austria) in the late morning and spend a leisurely afternoon cruising on the Danube.  Enjoy free time in Linz from 4:30-9pm.

 Day 5:  Daylight Sailing

This morning enjoy time at leisure while docked near Melk.  At noon, cruise the scenic Wachau Valley renowned for its production of some of Austria’s finest wines.  Arrive in Vienna at 7:30pm.

Day 6:  Vienna City Tour (included)

Your morning begins with a drive along the famed Ringstrasse, Vienna’s main boulevard.  View the hub of Hapsburg Empire, view the Vienna Opera House, Parliament & St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

Optional:  a) Schonbrunn Castle,pm $40, b) Sound of Vienna Concert,pm $56; c) Hofburg Palace $40 only pick 1

 

Day 7:  Bratislava City Tour (included)

Enjoy a city tour of the capital of Slovakia.  Bratislava has a history dating back more than 2000 years.

 

Day 8:  Budapest City Tour (included)

Your tour this morning begins in Pest and views the Royal Palace and Hero’s Square.  Cross over to Buda to view the graceful medieval architecture.  Explore the city on your own this afternoon.  Enjoy a scenic cruise of Budapest this evening.

Day 9:  Oct 12, 2010:  Depart for NY

This morning enjoy your breakfast, disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight back to New York.

 Day 3Weltenburg Monastery Tour am $44

Visit the Weltonburg Abbey, the oldest monastery in Bavana spectacularly located at the narrowest navigable point on the Bavanan Danube, the Danube Gorge.  Founded around 620 AD, the Abbey has grown to include not only the spectacular Asam Baroque church, but also the oldest monastery brewery in the world with almost 1,000 years of brewing tradition.  You will be able to taste some of these delicious beers that have made the brewer famous.

 Day 4 Salzburg City Tour pm $59

Depart for Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and famous cultural setting for the Sound of Music.  Enjoy a walking city tour to see some of the most historic sights for which Salzburg is known, including Mirabella Palace and the Salzburg Cathedral, followed by time at leisure to explore the streets of Salzburg on your own.

 Day 5 Vienna by Night pm $36

Tonight, depart for the outskirts of Vienna to visit the Kahlenberg, the mountain which sits at the northeastern foothills of the Eastern Alps and rises well over 1500 feet.  Ascend an alpine forest road to reach the remarkable Kahlenberg Vista Point.  From here, enjoy an arresting panoramic view of Vienna stretched out below, with the placid Danube cutting through the city.  Be sure to bring a camera, as this offers a photographic opportunity of a lifetime.  Afterward, you’ll have the opportunity to experience true Austrian Gemuttichkoit, which is a sense of coziness, belonging and environment for guests.  Here, taste some local wines and enjoy the atmosphere.

 Day 6Pick 1: Schonbrunn Palace pm $40, Vienna Concert pm $56, Hofburg Palace pm $40

Schonbrunn Palace pm:  Once the summer residence of the Hapsburg emperors.  Our tour includes a visit to the magnificent baroque apartments and free time to stroll through the magnificent garden grounds. 

Sound of Vienna Concert pm:  What better way to dive into the heart of Viennese culture than to enjoy a delightful evening in the City of Music, the center of the Western Musical world since Renaissance times.  Attend a fantastic concert performance in the city and enjoy the ambience of a world class concert hall, the epitome of the refined life, as you appreciate some of Vienna’s classical masterpieces.  The orchestral arrangements are accompanied by professional opera vocalist and dance performances, recalling the golden age of the 19th century Viennese ballrooms. 

Hofburg Imperial Palace pm:  Visit the Hofburg Imperial Palace, which served as the royal residence of the Hapsburg Dynasty.  Today it serves as the official residence of the President of Austria and houses numerous artifacts and works of fine art.

 Day 8Pick 1:  Budapest Jewish Tour pm $27, Godollo Castle & Hungarian  Horse Show pm $54 

Budapest Jewish Heritage Tour pm This comprehensive tour follows the traces of Jewish life in Budapest.  The Raoul Wallenberg Memorial, Europe’s largest synagogue and the new Holocaust Museum are just some of the sites explored on this tour. 

Godollo Castle & Hungarian Horse Show:  Godollo Castle was built in the 18th century and became a symbol of the beloved Empress Elisabeth, better known as “Sissi”.  Nestled in an enormous park, the Castle is the largest complex of baroque buildings in Hungary and in recent years has been lovingly restored.  Continue onto a Csarda (horse farm), where you will witness an unforgettable performance of Hungarian horsemanship.

Accidental Death Benefit
